Announcements GRONDA Announces Projects for PVR Cinemas, India’s Largest Film Exhibitor

June 27, 2016

PVR Cinemas, the largest film entertainment company in India and a leader in defining the way entertainment is consumed in the world’s second most populous country, has engaged GRONDA to design four flagship movie theaters in New Delhi and Mumbai. Ranging in size from 1000 to 2000 seats, the theaters will combine high-end hospitality design concepts and cutting-edge interactive technology to offer moviegoers a glamorous, modern, and customized entertainment experience. One of the venues, located in New Delhi’s affluent Chanakyapuri neighborhood, will be a boutique cinema composed of three high-end screening rooms featuring custom chandeliers, prime marbles, amber mirrors and natural woods. The stylish and futuristic design will set the stage for a unique experience that combines the movies with other forms of entertainment, socializing and relaxation.

In Mumbai, GRONDA is creating one of Asia’s most exclusive movie theater experiences at Maker Maxity in the Bandra Kurla Complex. The project will have the feel of a small VIP members club featuring three distinctive entertainment offerings as well as high-end food and beverage outlets. It includes the design of an innovative 200-car drive-in that will bring together nature and technology in a magical 21st-century cinema experience. GRONDA is also refurbishing the iconic PVR Phoenix Mills, including its exterior facade, VIP areas and F&B concept. Chanakya as well as Phoenix Mills are planned to open by the end of 2016; Ambience and Maker Maxity will open in 2017.

GRONDA’s collaboration with PVR Cinemas builds on Diego Gronda´s experience with the movie theater industry in Thailand, where he was responsible for the design of multiple entertainment venues, ranging from exclusive VIP to large-scale cinemas, including Major Cineplex Udon, Chiang Mai, Mega Bangna, Rangsit, and Hay Yai. As a Managing Director at Rockwell Group, Madrid, Gronda designed the highly successful Siam Paragon Major Cineplex in Bangkok, which consistently ranks among the world’s top luxury cinemas. He also brought his background in high-end hospitality to the creation of Embassy Diplomat Screens, an exclusive entertainment venue with a residential feel that combines elements of a VIP club and state-of-the-art cinema.
